Spinnaker and Gennaker Sailing — Practice Course for Sailing Certificate 3

An intense full day where you practice stealth sailing with both spinnaker and gennaker — one of the main points of Sailing Certificate 3.

Boats and Layouts

• **Nordic Family Boat (NF) ** — classic spinnaker sailing with spinning boom

• Aira 22 -- gennaker sailing with modern day sailors

We start the day with card theory about:

• sail types: spinnaker vs gennaker — when to use what?

• rigging, setting, plastering and dismantling

• roles on board: helmsman, forwarder, gaj-trimmer, foredeck

• safety during evasive sailing (broach, control, demolition)

Then we spend most of the day on the water where you get to try out all the roles aboard both boat types. You will:

• put and take down the spinnaker/gennaker several times

• exercise controlled gips

• feel the difference between dinghy/day sailor and keelboat with spinnaker

• work with trim — speed, height, balance and stability

**This course is included as an important part of the practice for Sailing Certificate 3. **
Together with our 2-day Level 3 course at Operah, it covers the requirements of spinnaker/gennaker sailing.
